Highlights: Friday, April 3

Cornea Day 2009 and ASCRS Glaucoma Day 2009: Full-day sessions on the latest treatment and management options. Programs feature world-renowned faculties, lectures, panel discussions, debates, and surgical video reviews. Cornea Day, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, is jointly sponsored by the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee and the Cornea Society. ASCRS Glaucoma Day runs from 8:30 am-5:00 pm. ASOA offers a Certified Ophthalmic Executive Review Course. Review specific content areas on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4; take the paper exam on Tuesday, April 7. Click here for more information.

The Association of Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology, Inc. (ATPO) will host COA, COT, and COMT Written Exam Review Courses:
COA Review (3 A JCAHPO Credits) 9:00 am to Noon
COT Review (4 A JCAHPO Credits) 8:00 am to Noon
COMT Review (4.5 A JCAHPO Credits) 7:30 am to Noon

JCAHPO COA, COT, and COMT content areas will be reviewed and discussed ending with a Q&A session. These review courses will not provide instruction of test content, but will serve as an overview of content areas covered on the certification examination to help the attendee prepare for the exam.

A separate registration is required for these sessions and will be available in the ASCRS Preliminary Program book as well as on-line at www.atpo.org in January, 2009.

ASCRS•ASOA Welcome Reception: Plan on joining us Friday evening for a fun-filled kickoff to the Symposium and Congress. Venue to be announced. Supported by Advanced Medical Optics.

Highlights: Saturday, April 4

The ASOA Opening General Session features presidential speeches, 8:45-9:45 am, and Round Table discussions, 9:45-11:45 am. Tour the exhibit hall from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.

David F. Chang, MDThe ASCRS Opening General Session: The line up includes the Binkhorst Lecture by David F. Chang, MD. Honored Guests Patrick Condon, MD and Miguel Padilha, MD, FBCS will have brief comments. Inductees to the ASCRS Ophthalmology Hall of Fame will be introduced. The session will close with a celebrity surprise guest, 10:00-12:00 Noon.

Visit the ASCRS Ophthalmology Hall of Fame Exhibit; it opens immediately after the Opening General Session.

Highlights: Sunday, April 5

X-Rounds: Refractive/Cataract Surgery to the Max. Educational and entertaining. Panel led by Eric Donnenfeld, MD and Kerry Solomon, MD discusses new management of refractive IOL surgery, includes case presentations. Audience response keypads will further discussion, 1:00 pm-2:30 pm.

Highlights: Monday, April 6

Robert Osher, MDThe Innovators Session, 10:00-11:30 am will feature Robert Osher, MD presenting the Charles D. Kelman Innovator's Lecture.

27th Annual Film Festival Reception and Awards Ceremony: One Grand Prize and 1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded in 10 categories. Reception begins at 4:45 pm, followed by the awards presentation, 5:15-6:30 pm. Reception supported by Alcon.

Highlights: Tuesday, April 7

ASCRS Clinical Carryout—Questions and Controversies: What are the most important things you'll take home from the Symposium? A panel of leading ophthalmologists will facilitate thought-provoking discussion, and audience response keypads will be used to further dialogue, 3:00-4:30 pm. Reception follows, 4:30-5:30 pm.

Highlights: Wednesday, April 9

Best for Last: Best Papers of Session in cataract and refractive surgery will be presented. All films and posters will be available on demand at kiosks. Winning photographs from the Ophthalmic Photographers Society will also be displayed, 8:00 am-2:00 pm.

Activities Scheduled Throughout the Week

Skills Transfer Sessions: Additional registration is required for each session; fee for each session is $320. Registration for these sessions will be available in early December only on-line. All registered attendees will be notified by an e-mail of when registration opens. Saturday, April 4, 1:30-2:30 pm, Vitrectomy; Advanced Phaco 3:00-4:30 pm. Sunday, April 5, Limbal Relaxing Incisions/Peripheral Corneal Limbal Relaxing Incisions, two sessions, 8:00-9:30 am and 1:00-2:30 pm.
