Highly regarded for his direct and down-to-earth approach, Sen. Coburn will focus on “What’s Killing Healthcare” during his address. With his extensive background in healthcare and politics, along with his personal experience as both physician and patient, he will provide critical insight into American healthcare policy as he discusses our broken healthcare system, and he will offer his perspective on how to fix it.
A former Republican Senator from Oklahoma, Dr. Coburn served in the Senate from 2005 to 2015. He also represented Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1995 to 2001, and was the first Republican to hold that seat for consecutive terms. During his tenure in Congress, he served on the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, played a central role in Medicare and healthcare debates, and worked with ASCRS and the Patient Access Coalition on a patients’ bill of rights.
Described by the media as a budget hawk, Sen. Coburn led the fight to reduce wasteful Washington spending, increase accountability and transparency for all taxpayers, restore Constitutional government, and make healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans.
