CMS Extends 2015 Meaningful Use Hardship Exemption Deadline to July 1, 2016

This afternoon, as a result of the medical community’s advocacy, CMS extended the deadline for providers to apply for the EHR Meaningful Use Hardship Exemption deadline to July 1, 2016.  The previous deadline was March 15, 2016 for eligible professionals. CMS is extending the deadline so providers have sufficient time to submit their applications to avoid adjustments to their Medicare payments in 2017.

In January 2016, CMS posted new, streamlined hardship exemption application forms. View the CMS Payment Adjustments and Hardship Exemption webpage for more information on the new applications and instructions for providers seeking a hardship exemption.  We will continue to keep you updated.
