H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015

In April 2015, President Obama signed MACRA into law, and ushered in the biggest change to Medicare physician payments in decades. H.R. 2, which passed the both the House and Senate with overwhelming bipartisan majorities, was the result of many years of concentrated efforts to repeal the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate. While MACRA is not the law ASCRS or other medical groups would have written, it is a significant improvement over previous drafts of the legislation, that we did not support. Not only did it eliminate the constant uncertainty from the threat of major cuts from the SGR, it provides modest, but regular 0.5% updates for five years.
