ASCRS and the Medical Community Put Pressure on Congress to Pass IPAB Repeal at Briefing; It’s Not Too Late to Contact Your Members of Congress and Ask Them to Co-Sponsor Repeal Legislation

This week, the Protect My Doctor and Me coalition, of which ASCRS is a member, held a Congressional briefing, “What does the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) Mean to Medicare Beneficiaries?” to illustrate the impact IPAB would have on patients’ access to care. The panel featured perspectives from the medical community—including Alex Valadka, MD of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Alliance of Specialty Medicine—patient advocates, and the hospital community. Each described the damaging effect the severe and immediate cuts to Medicare IPAB could make, and urged for immediate passage of legislation to repeal IPAB. Finally, the panelists noted that action must be swift, since Medicare spending is expected to increase in 2017 at a rate fast enough to trigger IPAB.

ASCRS•ASOA members can help ensure your members of Congress support this important legislation and sign on as co-sponsors by visiting the ASCRS•ASOA eyeContact Action Center and sending instant emails to your Senators and Representative.
