Next week, ASCRS and ASOA members from around the country will take time out of their busy schedules to attend the 2017 Alliance of Specialty Medicine Legislative Fly-In, and this year’s agenda will feature Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price, MD.
The annual advocacy conference brings together 13 medical specialty groups in Washington, D.C., to lobby for key policy priorities. Attendees will meet with their Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill to outline important issues affecting their profession and patients and ask them to take action. The Fly-In has become increasingly popular—so much so that we’ve reached capacity this year. The two-day event provides an excellent opportunity to enhance members’ understanding of public policy issues affecting ophthalmology and other specialties, as well as enable them to participate directly in the political process.
In addition to their Hill meetings, attendees of the Fly-In will be treated to a packed agenda of notable speakers, including legislators and other health policy experts, who will speak to the group on a number of healthcare-related topics. In addition to Secretary Price, this year’s roster includes officials from the FDA and the White House; political commentator Tucker Carlson; as well as Sen. Rand Paul, MD (R-KY), Reps. Phil Roe (R-TN) and Raul Ruiz, MD (D-CA), and others.
Although ASCRS•ASOA has reached maximum attendance for the upcoming Fly-In, if you’re interested in participating next year—or learning more about other advocacy opportunities—please contact Tami O’Brien, manager of PAC and grassroots, at email@example.com.
