Fairfax, VA – The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery today announced the launch of www.EyeWorld.mobi, an Internet service optimized for viewing content on mobile, hand-held wireless devices.
“.Mobi” is an Internet domain that was specially created for web sites that are to be accessed through mobile devices. On .mobi sites, text, images, the user interface, and display of material has been specially optimized to make reading web content easier on hand-held devices.
“Globally, the number of people accessing the Internet via mobile devices is greater than that of hard-wired, desktop users. A huge international market can be reached by accessing mobile devices with optimized content, and this makes EyeWorld more valuable to our members and advertisers,” said EyeWorld Publisher, Don Long.
At this time, our .mobi service is optimized for Personal Digital Assistants (Palm Trio, for example) and smart phone (Blackberry-type devices) users. Before our annual Symposium in April, we will accommodate feature phones (any standard cell phone with internet access) and Apple iPhones, said John Long, Web Manager for ASCRS and EyeWorld.
Currently, people can access the latest issue of EyeWorld magazine, the latest continuing medical education supplements; and the most current version of the ophthalmic industry newsletter, EyeWorld Week.
“We will be continually working on integrating useful tools, for example if you are reading an article on your mobile device in an airport, and wish to read it later on your personal computer, there is a tool to send your self a link to that story along with any notes you wish to add,” John Long added.
