ASCRS Joins Alliance in Urging Congressional Members to Co-Sign Letter Spearheaded by Representative Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA), to CMS Asking for More Transparency Surrounding Reimbursement Changes
Representative Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is circulating a letter asking CMS for more transparency in the proposed rulemaking process when significant changes are being made to Medicare payments. CMS reviews the Relative Value Units for codes and then determines the new Medicare fee-for-service payments for the upcoming year and releases them in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) final rule. Representative Cassidy’s letter asks that these changes be published in the MPFS proposed rule to give medical societies and providers adequate time to make adjustments.
ASCRS joined with the Alliance of Specialty Medicine in a letter highlighting the importance of identifying RVU changes in the MPFS proposed rule and urging other Representatives to sign on to Representative Cassidy’s letter.
Representatives Sander Levin (D-MI), Henry Waxman (D-CA), Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ), and Jim McDermott (D-WA) also sent a letter to CMS , requesting more transparency and a notice of the proposed changes to Medicare payments in the MPFS final rule.
