CMS issued a reminder about the EHR payment adjustments that will begin on January 1, 2015. CMS will determine the payment adjustment based on the meaningful use data that physicians submit prior to the 2015 calendar year. See below for a reminder of how payment adjustments will affect you:
- If you first demonstrated meaningful use in 2011 or 2012, you must have demonstrated meaningful use (MU) for the full year in 2013 to avoid the payment adjustment in 2015.
- If you first demonstrated MU in 2013, you must have demonstrated MU for a 90-day reporting period in 2013 to avoid the 2015 payment adjustment.
- If you first demonstrate MU in 2014, you must demonstrate MU for a 90-day reporting period in 2014 to avoid the payment adjustment in 2015. The reporting period must occur in the first 9 months of CY 2014, and you must attest to MU no later than Oct. 1, 2014.
- To avoid payment adjustments in future years, you must demonstrate MU every year.
