ASCRS Joins the AMA and the Medical Community in Expressing Concern About Electronic Health Record (EHR) Certification Process
This week, ASCRS along with the American Medical Association and other medical specialty groups sent a letter to the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) regarding the certification process of EHRs.
The letter recommends decoupling EHR certification from the Meaningful Use program and seeking further feedback from stakeholders on the EHR certification process. The letter also notes that there is a need to change the current certification program to better align end-to-end testing to focus on EHR usability, interoperability and patient safety. It also urges that clinical scenario testing be a key method in evaluating whether EHR systems can support varying physician workflows.
