ASCRS•ASOA and Medical Community Continue to Press for the Meaningful Use Stages 1 and 2 Modifications Proposed Rule to be Finalized and Delay of Stage 3; Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Still Reviewing
Despite strong advocacy from ASCRS•ASOA and others in the medical community urging the proposed rule offering flexibility for Stages 1 and 2 of Meaningful Use to be finalized, the final modifications rule is still under review by OMB and has been for three weeks. The rule could be released at any time, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and OMB have not made any indications of when it might be. Concurrently, we still await the release of the Stage 3 final rule, which is also at OMB. It is unclear whether CMS plans to release the Stage 3 final rule as part of the modifications rule or separately. ASCRS•ASOA advocacy efforts to push for a delay of Stage 3 will continue.
As we have reported, ASCRS•ASOA has joined with our colleagues in the medical community in letters to CMS and OMB asking for the modifications rule to be released as soon as possible and Stage 3 to be delayed.
ASCRS•ASOA is monitoring the situation closely and will alert members as soon as the rules are released or additional information is available.
