Accuracy of Ladas Super Formula

Author: Jonathan M. Davidorf, MD

Purpose:

To evaluate the IOL calculation accuracy of the LADAS Super-Formula compared to traditional theoretical IOL calculation formulas and intraoperative aberrometry (ORA).

Methods:

This ongoing retrospective study currently comprises 92 consecutive eyes undergoing cataract surgery and receiving an acrylic aspheric multifocal IOL (ZKB00). Intraoperative aberrometry was performed in all cases. Postoperative refractions at one month were performed and mean actual and absolute prediction errors were calculated for the theoretical formula used (SRK-T, Haigis, and Holladay), for the intraoperative aberrometry calculations, and for the LADAS Super-Formula.

Results:

Mean actual prediction errors were -0.20+/-0.36 (SRK-T), -0.15+/-0.34 (Haigis), -0.18+/-0.37 (Holladay), -0.06+/-0.33 (ORA), 0.18+/-0.36 (LADAS). Mean absolute prediction errors were 0.33+/-0.24 (SRK-T), 0.30+/-0.22 (Haigis), 0.28+/-0.30 (Holladay), 0.26+/-0.20 (ORA), 0.33+/-0.23 (LADAS). There was a statistically significant difference in actual prediction errors between the LADAS formula and all three theoretical formulas and intraoperative aberrometry (p<0.05, student’s="" t-test).="" there="" was="" no="" statistically="" significant="" difference="" in="" absolute="" prediction="" errors="" or="" variances="" between="" the="" ladas="" formula="" and="" the="" other="" methods.="" student’s="" t-test).="" there="" was="" no="" statistically="" significant="" difference="" in="" absolute="" prediction="" errors="" or="" variances="" between="" the="" ladas="" formula="" and="" the="" other="">

Conclusions:

The LADAS Super-Formula demonstrates a similar level of accuracy in IOL power calculations and a small tendency towards hyperopic postoperative refractive errors compared with commonly used theoretical formulas and intraoperative aberrometry in eyes undergoing cataract surgery with acrylic multifocal IOL implantation.
