Artificial iris implants with integrated fiber mesh could be associated with complications such as glaucoma and the need for consecutive surgeries. Therefore the fiber-free iris prosthesis would be the recommended option in cases of aniridia. However, these fiber-free artificial implants require new surgical techniques to implant them in eyes without capsular support or in cases of aphakia.
