Coaxial irrigation aspiration (I/A) poses difficulty in subincisional cortex removal especially in difficult situations like small pupil and small rhexis. Convertible I/A is a no-cost innovation for cortex removal in such cases obviating an additional incision required for bimanual I/A. A pilot study showed 0% residual cortex with convertible I/A compared to 25% with coaxial I/A in tough cases.
