ASCRS Live! Preparing for Its Next Stop
ASCRS Live!, a new regional dinner series coming to nine U.S. cities in 2024, made its first successful stop in Phoenix last week and is preparing to head to New York City in May. The primary focus at each event will be refractive cataract surgery along with a secondary, rotating topic.
These events, targeted to a smaller audience and open to local ophthalmologist members and nonmembers, will include ample time for open discussion and questions.

ASCRS/ASOA Release Guidance on Use of the G2211 Add-on Code
ASCRS and ASOA prepared guidance for ophthalmic practices on the use of the new G2211 Office and Outpatient (O/O) Evaluation and Management (E/M) Visit Complexity Add-on Code, which went into effect January 1, 2024.
Click here to download a PDF of this guidance document.
The guidance provides greater clarity on how and when to use the new G2211 code, which is an additional payment to the O/O E/M visit primary service codes to better account for the additional resources of visits associated with:
- Serving as the continuing focal point for all of the patients’ healthcare services needs;
- Ongoing medical care related to a patient’s single, serious condition, or complex condition.
Among other points, the guidance notes that the G2211 code may be used with all levels of O/O E/M visits, cannot be used with eye code (92002-92014) claims, and is not payable when the associated O/O E/M visit is reported with modifier -25. CMS does not expect to see G2211 when an E/M visit is reported with modifiers -24 and/or -53.
Please review the guidance for ophthalmic-specific vignettes on how to use the code and examples of when the code should not be billed.
