Giving—It’s More Than Just a Day

Yesterday, November 28, was Giving Tuesday, but it's not too late make your end of year donations to the ASCRS Foundation. Supporting the gift of sight and the education of those who deliver sight-restoring surgery is not limited to just one day.

Help the ASCRS Foundation reach its goal of $15,000!

Donations made to the ASCRS Foundation support life-changing cataract surgery to those in need.

Every act of generosity counts! Learn more about the work of the ASCRS Foundation and donate here.

If you’re thinking about gifts to get your colleagues, friends, and family for the holidays, consider giving the gift of sight through a donation to the ASCRS Foundation in their name.

Operation Sight—Changing Lives in Your Own Community

Operation Sight is the ASCRS Foundation’s charitable cataract surgery program that operates in the U.S. This program, launched in 2014, serves financially vulnerable, uninsured individuals who cannot afford or access care.

Since its inception, Operation Sight and its more than 750 volunteer surgeons have helped provide nearly 10,000 cataract surgeries.

Operation Sight Recipient Shares His Story

“I lost myself in the process of my eyesight going bad,” Dennis, an Operation Sight patient, said in his testimonial video. He had lost his job, his wife. “I just felt worthless.”

Dennis’ sister found information about Operation Sight and Dennis was matched with volunteer surgeon Jeffrey Levinson, MD. “You guys changed my life,” Dennis said.

Losing the sense of sight due to cataracts has a profound impact on the day-to-day life of people like Dennis. His story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact that Operation Sight provides to underinsured people throughout the U.S.

Include the ASCRS Foundation in Planned Giving

Including the ASCRS Foundation in your estate planning is an easy way to make a substantial, lasting commitment, ensuring your legacy lives on. Your lawyer or financial advisor can assist you. Since the foundation cannot predict future advances or the future of our programs, it is recommended your bequest be designated for unrestricted purposes.

Suggested language might include "I give, devise and bequeath (the sum of ___ dollars), or (all or ___ percent) of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate of every kind and description (including lapsed legacies and devises) to the ASCRS Foundation currently located at 12587 Fair Lakes Circle Suite 348 Fairfax, VA 22033 EIN 23-7388748."

Contact [email protected] or call (703) 788-5781 for further information. Learn more about this giving option and other ways to give here.

“Residency training can be very taxing (for everyone), and it can be hard to imagine what our lives after training will look like. The Annual Meeting is a great place to get that glimpse.” —David Ramirez, MD, a former Resident Excellence Award recipient
