ICU patients often present with exposure keratopathy (EK), with incidence up to 60% due to factors such as sedation and mechanical ventilation. EK can cause severe discomfort and vision loss if not treated promptly. A standardized eye care protocol for ocular protection is essential to effectively reduce EK incidence, an otherwise preventable corneal pathology.
